There was a man named Eternity. He was invited to a dance where you were required to wear a name tag. He pinned the name “Eternity” on his lapel and entered the dance hall. He immediately saw a gracious but somewhat nervous woman, with the name tag “Impermanence.” He asked her to dance. As they danced, they were swept away by the music and momentum and they had the time of their lives. Then the music ended and Eternity thanked Impermanence for a wonderful dance. Impermanence’s face could not disguise her fear and anguish.
“What’s the matter?” Eternity asked.
“I can’t believe it’s over. I expected it to go on and on!”
“Oh, I knew it was going to end.” Eternity responded.
“But how did you know?”
“Because I read your name tag.” Eternity smiled. “Your name is Impermanence!”
Impermanence looked down, she smiled but still looked disappointed.
“Don’t worry, Impermanence, we will carry this memory with us forever!”
“Oh you’re just saying that… you’ll probably forget.”
“No, I won’t.”
Impermanence was confused at his confidence.
“You see, you forgot to read my name tag, I am Eternity!”
This is it! This is the dance. Are you fully present? Are you having fun? Are dancing to be seen, or to see?
