We live in a world where being positive, upbeat, compassionate, and loving, is viewed with suspicion and malice. One is accused of being fake, while those who are negative, complaining, rude, and judgmental are said to be “keeping it real”. Why is this?
We esteem those who call out the darkness in others, while those who shine a light on others are called fools.
Those who boast are called great, yet those who are great never boast.
Those who stand for equality, social justice, and peace, are killed or imprisoned, while those who espouse the superiority of their nation, race, or religion, are handed the keys to power.
On this planet, a man who went around loving, healing, and setting others free, was beaten, scourged, and taken to the cross, not to pay the price for our sins, though on that day he certainly did, but rather to ask that we love one another as he loved us. And with his last breath, rather than cursing those who were mocking and tormenting him, he turned his head to the heavens and cried, “Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do”!
Now, I know that darkness, oppression, and hatred, are real, but so are light, freedom, and love. What will your life be a testament of? We all have a choice. If circumstances alone were the sole requirement of living a good, true, and just life, then those who laid down their lives to show us a better way, would have died reflecting the same shadows they opposed.
I used to think the heavens made a mistake in sending me to this hell? Now, I call it my golden opportunity to “show em what I’m made of.” Oh, how I fail my best intentions again and again, but I salute the graciousness of a Universe that allows me to have a fresh start each and every day. Over time I have noticed that people become what they practice. I am a practitioner. I practice telling the truth, forgiving myself and others, and shining the light of love in a world that so desperately needs it
From time to time we all need a reality check. Who are you? Why are you here? What do you want to do? What’s your choice?
Just keeping it real… or to quote John Lennon, “Reality leaves a lot to the imagination.”
One more in the name of love and remember……
“Our heroes are not better than us,
they shine a light so we can see our own.”
